Wanna know one of the simplest systems to establish early in your marketing work flow?

Shooting b-roll footage. This is how you can be different from everybody else using stock footage.

"B-roll" video footage is basically clips of random-but no so random things that you may not have a reason for shooting at that time, but can serve as clips that you can reuse again and again with different contexts.

What's great is now you can think content creation as documenting your life.

Once you have these clips, you can add inspiring messages, teach people something, and draw their attention because they've found something in common with you.

Here are some different examples I've shot -

So why is this type of content so valuable?

Social Media Tip: b-roll clips should not be random! Relate them to you, your personality, your life, your everyday habits - things that tell a story about you. They are subtle opportunities to start connections with new viewers, spark conversations, and help people remember you and your brand!

Every single piece of content you put out can be intentional. That includes b-roll clips.

Make the clips make sense for you and make them simple to capture. All you need is a tripod, set your recording to capture in portrait mode (1080x1920 px), and hit record (Don’t think about the edits yet!!)

Here are some ideas of things you can capture -

  1. Your office/you working
  2. Your weekend travels
  3. Your morning routine
  4. Your evening routine
  5. A relaxing time during your vacay
  6. Your family activities
  7. The books you are reading
  8. Behind the scenes as you get ready for an event
  9. Team outings
  10. You favorite past-time/hobby

Once you capture these clips, put them into a folder on your phone. Name each folder so you can remember it the best way for you. Reuse, Reuse, Reuse by changing up the text on screen and audio.

The possibilities are endless and now your content calendar can be filled up!
